Matthysse naturally was flattered with the comparison, but he made it clear that he’d rather be getting a fight against Pacquiao than being called the next Pacquiao.

Matthysse said “I feel happy that people are comparing me to Manny Pacquiao, but what I really want to do is fight him.”

The two promotional companies will likely not agree to this fight taking place at any point in the future, and so it’s pointless for Matthysse to dream about such a match-up. If the fight were to take place, you have to give Matthysse a very good chance of beating Pacquiao due to how badly he’s deteriorated in the past year.

Pacquiao was out-boxed by Tim Bradley and punched around by Juan Manuel Marquez. Chances are Pacquiao will lose his next fight against Brandon Rios on November 23rd, which could send Pacquiao’s career spiraling downwards in a death spiral.

Matthysse would have little to gain in fighting Pacquiao at that point. Pacquiao has lost his last two fights and he’s now at the edge of the precipice where another loss could send Pacquiao into retirement if it’s a bad enough defeat.

Matthysse is probably too strong for Manny right now and with his big power punches, he’d be the last guy that Pacquiao needs to be fighting at this point in his career.

As far as comparisons go, Matthysse is nothing like Pacquiao in fighting style. The only thing that they have in common is that they’ll all-action punchers with exciting fighting styles that boxing fans enjoy. Pacquiao is a lot faster, however, with both hands and feet, and he fights nothing like Matthysse.
