Champions sign to face opponents that pose very little threat to them. it’s not been a scenario that attracts new fans. but tonight that all changes.

So why is Alvarez vs Trout any different to all the other fights? Risk and competition. It’s not a case of one having a huge talent over the other. No fight is truly 50/50, but this is as close as it gets. It’s a genuine competition. Both fighters are risking a lot. Many champions fight boxers that won’t win. They know it and so do the fans. Both are at the top of their game and a defeat could be handed to either one. This is the kind of fight that will bring new fans to boxing. and if you aren’t excited, you should be.

Trout is coming off a win against Miguel Cotto. We all expected this fight to be Cotto vs Alvarez. Trout threw a spanner in the works and out classed the man ranked 3rd in the ppv rankings. Trout will have confidence right now. he is the more tactical boxer that will have a clear game plan. But people tend to forget their plan when Canelo hits them. Alvarez his hard, fast and ferocious. He always punches with conviction and the results have been devastating. He has been accused of taking the easy path to the title. He hasn’t been matched hard but what can the haters say now? will he get credit if he wins tonight? I’m not so sure.

Boxing is a business and everyone needs to get paid. To many times the best fighters need to wait far too long for big pay days due to a lack of fan base. it couldn’t have been easy for Canelo to pick Trout over Cotto. Like I said, Cotto has a huge fan base and the money would have flowed in. But Alvarez has decided to take a true challenge over a huge pay day. Let’s hope other champions take note.

I think Saul Alvarez will start fast and put effort into working the body. He will miss more than he lands. Austin Trout will focus on counter punching and making Canelo miss. Until round 6 I see Trout Ahead. In the later stages Canelo should have found his range and fine tuned his timing. I see Saul Alvarez winning via a 9th or 10th round KO.
