Khan: My fight against Julio Diaz could be one of my last in the UK

The Khan-Diaz fight will be taking place at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, and the fight involves a bout where Khan is fighting another 2nd tier fighter instead of an actual contender.

Khan said to Sky Sports News “It’s good to be back fighting in England. This could be one of my last times…I want to make it special for them…with this being one of my last here in the UK, I want an explosive bout. I want people to get excited watching me.”

So Khan won’t be fighting too much more in the UK if at all, eh? I wonder what has brought about this crucial decision by him. Is he just looking to sell tickets to his April 27th fight?

I’ve heard whispers that the tickets aren’t exactly being greedily scooped up in high numbers by Khan’s loyal British fans, and what better way to move the tickets then to say he could be fighting one of his last fights in the country. It’s an old trick that shop keepers sometimes use to sell their products by putting out one of those ‘going out of business’ signs but without any intention of actually going out of business.

Could Khan be doing the same by saying this will be one of his last fights in the UK? If so, I think it might work because if the Brits think they won’t get to see Khan again, there could be a mad stampede at the ticket offices to scoop up the remaining tickets so that the fight sells out. Khan could then happily announce a sellout. I just wonder what Khan’s will think if he keeps coming back to the UK for future fights. Will they feel tricked or will they have forgotten about his previous comments?

Khan certainly has a beatable opponent in the 33-year-old Diaz for him to have the exciting bout that he’s talking about. When you select an aging former lightweight to fight instead of a young and relevant fighter from your weight class it definitely increases your chances of success.
