Julio Diaz looking to smash Khan tonight

khan222By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan’s career is on the brink of failure with him having lost two out of his last three fights. He admits it himself that he can’t afford to lose tonight against Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s) in their catch-weight fight at 143 pounds in the UK.

With Golden Boy Promotions matching Khan against the 2nd tier fighter Julio Diaz tonight, it’s pretty much curtains for Khan if he loses this fight. I mean, they’ve dipped down in the rankings to the 2nd tier just to find someone that they think Khan can beat that is recognizable to the older boxing fans who remember Diaz many years ago. But if Khan can’t even beat this guy then he really needs to pack it in and look for another line of work because that’ll be a clear sign that Khan doesn’t have a place at the top.

Diaz may be a huge underdog in this fight, but in a way his job is a lot easier than it normally is because his entire training camp has focused on looking for a knockout of the fragile-chinned Khan. That makes things really easy for Diaz. He doesn’t need to focus on trying to out-box Khan because the chances are he’s not going to get the decision win anyway.

Diaz knows it himself that he’s probably not going to get a decision tonight in Sheffield given that he’s the visiting fighter and Khan is the home guy. That’s why all he’s looking to do is knock Khan out cold to get the win.

Diaz will be going right for Khan’s chin and looking to hit him as hard as he can with every punch. If Khan decides he wants to follow his trainer Virgil Hunter’s plans of trying to box Diaz, it’s going to mean that Khan will be out there a lot longer and increasing the chances that Diaz is going to hit him with a big shot right on the sweet spot to knock him out cold.
