Fury refuses to take part in coin toss with Cunningham at final press conference

fury45By Scott Gilfoid: Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) flat out said no to the idea of a coin toss at the final press conference with his opponent Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) today to determine who would be the fighter that comes out second for their fight on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

As soon as promoter Kathy Duva produced a coin and announced they were going to do a coin toss, Fury got bent out of shape and went into a long-winded rant, bragging about himself and downgrading Cunningham. It seemed to go on forever before Fury finally closed his yap so that other people could talk.

Fury said: “There’s only one star here and it’s not Steve Cunningham. This is the Tyson Fury Road Show. We’re bringing it to New York. Steve Cunningham is the opponent. He’s not the champ here. He’s not the man. He ain’t the best here. It’s all about me. Me, me, me. I wasn’t informed about spinning any coin. If I wanted to go gambling, I’d go to a casino. I’m the man. I’m the man to beat. I’m the best fighter on the planet. I’ll say it again. Steve Cunningham is an opponent, a stepping stone. This is the Tyson Fury Road. Why should he go into the ring before me? I’m the undefeated one. Without me there’s no fight. I maybe hot-heated but I can fight. I’m the best fighter on Earth. God has bigger plans for me than Steve Cunningham because he’s already been defeated and I haven’t . I wasn’t informed about this [the coin toss] and I’m not happy about it.”

When Kathy Duva tried to patiently explain to Fury that Cunningham is the American fighter and he’s better known fighter to U.S boxing fans, Fury wasn’t having any of it and suggested that they fight over the purses where the winner takes all. Kathy then explained to Fury that this is illegal in the United States and it can’t be done. Fury then finally clammed up and didn’t respond.
