By Scott Gilfoid: The talented unbeaten heavyweight Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) remained unbeaten with a 1st round TKO victory over Audley Harrison (31-7, 23 KO’s) tonight at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, UK.

Wilder nailed Audley with a huge right hand in the corner and then snowed him under with a flurry of shots that put Audley down in the corner. Audley made it back up at the count of 8, but he was too hurt to continue.

Audley never stopped a chance once he got hit hard with the first big right hand from Deontay. Audley turned his head after getting hit with that big right, and all Deontay had to do was add a handful of shots to finish him off.

There’s no shame in Audley getting stopped like that because had it been any other heavyweight in there tonight they would have ended up in the same boat.

Audley was full of excuses after the fight, saying “Obviously he caught me with a big shot. I took a knee but he kept punching. He caught me with a big shot and I was looking to take a knee. 100 percent I want to continue. I felt confident in there. Deontay’s a big puncher and I had him in my camp. I felt like I could recover. The fight wasn’t over; it was just started. I took a knee but he kept punching. Obviously, he’s 27-0 with 27 knockouts for a reason. I blame the referee for stopping it too early.”

Wilder said “I always train for the long run. I’m a beast. I train hard. Mentally, I already had him beaten before I even stepped in the ring. I saw it in his eyes. Tyson Fury is the next one.”

Tyson Fury doesn’t want Deontay Wilder. He’s got problems enough just trying to beat cruiserweights. Fury has to get past Kubrat Pulev and David Haye and I see him losing both of those fights. At that point, I suppose Deontay can still fight Fury, but it would hardly be worth it for Deontay because it would be a step backwards with his career. Deontay doesn’t need anymore Audley-type fighters and Fury is clearly in that class.
