By Scott Gilfoid: The light hitting WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) is suddenly promising to give his much harder hitting opponent #1 WBO Robin Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KO’s) a beating this Saturday night in their fight at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

I’m not sure what got into Cleverly and gave him the ideas that he can punch with the hard hitting German fighter but I think he’s going to be making a major mistake if he does try and do that.

Cleverly said to I Film London “I’m going to take him out…before I get stuck into this guy and rip him apart. I’ll make him pay on Saturday night.”

I would buy Cleverly’s bold prediction if he had been knocking guys out all along, but the fact of the matter if Cleverly’s not a huge puncher or anything close. Look at his resume for his last five fights. Cleverly has only knocked out two of them and he’s faced largely weak opposition and he still couldn’t knock them out.

In his last five fights, Cleverly has beaten Nadjib Mohammedi, Aleksy Kuziemski, Tony Bellew, Tommy Karpency and Shawn Hawk. The only guys that Cleverly has stopped in those five fights are the 2nd tier fighters Kuziemski and Hawk. The rest of the guys Cleverly didn’t even come close to stopping.

Like I said, I rate Krasniqi as being the much bigger puncher and the one that has the best chance of scoring a knockout in this fight. Krasniqi is one of those rare fighters that didn’t start out as a big puncher when he turned pro in 2005, but learned how to punch as he improved his form with help from great trainers in Germany and he’s now a lethal puncher.

His new power works out really well with his excellent hand speed. He’s fast and he’s power and he can do everything that Cleverly can do, but with much better results. This is going to be a really tough fight for Cleverly and I can see him hitting the canvas two or three times before this one is over.

Krasniqi has won 38 straight fights after starting out his pro career losing two out of his first three fights. Since 2011, Krasnigi has really developed his power to a whole new level to where he’s knocked out his last four opponents he’s faced.
