002 Alvarez vs Trout IMG_3712(Tom Casino/SHOWTIME) By Scott Gilfoid: I just saw tonight’s fight and I’ve got to say that WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-1, 14 KO’s) got royally screwed over by the judges in Texas in losing a 12 round unanimous decision to WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

I know there’s a saying that you have to consider a visiting fighter four rounds down at the start of the fight against a home fighter, and there was never more true than tonight with Trout getting jobbed in Texas. I thought Trout clearly out-boxed Canelo and won what should have been an easy 12 round unanimous decision.

At best, I thought Canelo won three rounds at the very most. He just didn’t land enough punches and was the one taking the shots through 2 ½ minutes of every round. Even in the 7th, the round where Canelo knocked Trout down at the start of the round, I thought Trout out-boxed Canelo. Trout was the one pressing the fight for 12 rounds with Canelo backing up constantly and not throwing enough punches.

The judges scores were pretty much of a joke with them scoring it 115-112, 116-111 and 118-109.

Trout controlled the fight, landed more punches and was the one that clearly won that dominated the last six rounds.

Trout could have made a big deal out of after the fight when he was interviewed, but he showed his class, saying “The better man won.”
That’s not true. The better man was the one that was on the receiving end of a very controversial decision.

I like Canelo and I wouldn’t have minded if he had actually won the fight, but he didn’t. The guy clearly lose the fight and looked terrible.
