warren53565By Mark Havey: A career that has spanned 33 years has seen Frank Warren dominate the sport of boxing in Britain. He has promoted many of the top British fighters and rarely fails to put on a good show. He was the mastermind behind the career off the outspoken crowd pleaser, Prince Naseem Hamed. He guided Ricky Hatton to become Britain’s most popular boxer. The rocky relationship between Warren and Joe Calzaghe was well known, but they achieved a lot together. Amir Khan turned pro with Frank Warren and progressed at a nice rate. Warren still has Dereck Chisora.

This week has seen two well loved British boxers leave the Frank Warren stable. Ricky Burns has pulled out of his Partnership. It’s never good when your champions start to leave, especially when they have the ability of Burns. After growing increasingly popular in his native Scotland, Burns has delivered a serious blow to Warrens cash flow. A while ago I got the impression that Ricky burns was growing frustrated with not getting the fights he wanted. Warren has done really well for Burns, but in boxing you have to look to the future, not the past. Burns clearly is not happy with the direction that his career is taking.

The aggressive style of George Groves makes him a ticket seller. His exceptional talent makes him a true prospect. In fact I believe he has surpassed that stage and is now a contender. It’s almost certain that George Groves will become a world champion, and it shouldn’t take long. Again, this loss is a potentially damaging blow to Frank Warrens stable.

Eddie Hearn has had a result snapping up George Groves, and many more will follow. A long time ago a called Eddie Hearn the future of British boxing and received alot of stick. I was right and knew I was. I based that prediction on Eddie gaining exclusive rights to Sky. If any fighter wants to box on Sky they must go Through Eddie Hearn. This gives him more power than the other British Promoters. Most people have Sky so the exposure that Eddie Hearns boxers gets is alluring. He puts on better shows than Mick Hennessy, so he has an edge there.

Frank Warren works through BoxNation which is a subscription channel costing £10 a month. Don’t get me wrong is great value for money. it’s the best £10 I spend each month. But people don’t like to pay out. You have to first sign up with the channel to see just how good it is. I don’t know what the future holds for Warren, but I think he will lose more fighters to Eddie Hearn.
