Trout capable of out-boxing Canelo for long stretches

If this was a three-round fight, then I’d give Canelo a good chance of winning because he could turn it into one of those Prizefighter type of fights where the most aggressive guy for three rounds wins the fight. But this isn’t a three round fight; it’s for 12 rounds, and Canelo will need boxing skills in order for him to be able to win a decision over Trout unless he’s somehow able to KO him. I don’t see that happening.

What’s really working against the 22-year-old Canelo being able to do much boxing in the fight is the large crowd that will be attending the fight, and showing undying support for the Mexican Canelo. They’re going to be egging him on to try and stop Trout, and this is only going to make Trout’s job that much easier to out-box Canelo as he loads up with every shot he throws.

It’s never a good idea to fight in front of your own boxing fans when you’re facing a master boxer like Trout because it causes a fighter to fight in a primitive caveman type of way that ultimately undermines their own effort. Canelo needs to outbox Trout, but he certainly won’t be trying to do that if he’s got 30,000 Mexican fans in attendance cheering him on.

Another problem that Canelo has is his own anger in the ring. He seems to get hot-headed in the ring when he’s not finding success. He’s so used to dominating the incredibly easy fodder that his promoters at Golden Boy has fed him to where he seems to get angry when he’s not able to dominate everyone.

If you look at Canelo’s fight with Shane Mosley, you can see Canelo visibly frustrated that he couldn’t knock out the 41-year-old fighter, and you see Canelo fighting with anger and turning red in the face.

That’s not fighting smart. Trout is going to bring that anger out on April 20th and have Canelo’s facing turn red and staying red when he can’t do to Trout that he’s been doing against the weak record-inflating opponents that Golden Boy fed him to build up his impressive looking record.
