Mickey Bey news

“I fully respect the Commission’s decision, and am grateful for their understanding and fair judgment in my case. I have never used drugs, and never had any intent to violate the Nevada State Athletic Commission Drug Policy” Bey said following his hearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on March 20, 2013. Furthermore, Bey pointed out to the Commission that his doctor’s medical records clearly stated that he not receive any performance enhancing substances.

The NSAC suspended Bey for three months and fined him $1,000 after he tested positive for an abnormal level of testosterone following his Feb. 2 knockout of Robert Rodriguez in the third round of their 10-round lightweight bout at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Bey and his Las Vegas attorneys, Joe Brown and Douglas Cohen, argued that Bey went to the Las Vegas Health Clinic for treatment of his flu-like symptoms specifically because Bey wanted to be given natural remedies only. Brown pointed out that Dr. Carmen Jones’ treatment notes clearly stated “patient is aware that performance enhancement is not an option and will be treated with low dosage on consistent basis to help with symptoms.” Despite that direction, Dr. Jones injected Bey with testosterone in addition to Vitamins C and B-12.

“Mickey appropriately placed his trust in the hands of licensed medical professionals,” stated Brown. “He had informed them that he was a professional boxer, with strict rules to follow, but was administered violative substances nonetheless.”

Bey, whose win over Rodriguez will be changed to a no contest, remains undefeated at 18-0.
