Guerrero doesn’t have the physical tools to beat Mayweather

guerrero342By Dan Ambrose: No matter how you look at the May 4th fight between Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) and Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s), it’s pretty much impossible to give the slow as molasses Guerrero a chance to win this fight because he’s lacking in way too many areas in his game to pull off an upset.

Usually when Mayweather fights an opponent that opponent has one or two things going for him that’ll potentially make it interesting for Mayweather, but in this case there’s really nothing in Guerrero’s game that is strong enough for him to even have a remote chance at beating Mayweather.

When Guerrero was fighting at featherweight and super featherweight, he had power and huge size in those weight classes that made up for his lack of hand speed and poor defensive skills. But since moving up to welterweight, the power is completely gone, his height is now average for the division, and he’s still just as slow and hittable as he was in the lower weight classes.

In other words, Guerrero has moved up in weight, but his advantages that he had in the lower weight classes have now completely disappeared. Guerrero now just looks like a poor man’s version Antonio Margarito when you strip away Margarito’s heavy hands.

Mayweather is going to be able to hit Guerrero at will with his faster hands, and that’s going to be incredibly tough for him to hit Mayweather in return. Guerrero can try to walk Mayweather down if he wants to, but that kind of limited fighting style won’t fly against Mayweather.

It worked for Guerrero against Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto, but those guys don’t have nearly the same kind of talent that Mayweather has going for him.

The only thing I can see good coming from Guerrero for this fight is his trash talking outside of the ring. Guerrero is pretty good at keeping a constant flow of trash talking, but that’s about all I can see him doing good. He’s going to get dominated by Mayweather, and there’s nothing he can do about it because he lacks the physical tools to win this fight.
