Figueroa Jr. stops Aurad in 1st round
SAN ANTONIO, March 6, 2013 – Boxing fans were treated to another sensational event on Saturday night when a sold out, standing-room only crowd of over 2,000 at Our Lady of the Lake University Wellness & Activities Center in San Antonio, Texas and a FOX Sports Networks and Fox Deportes national viewing audience witnessed an action-packed fight card presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Leija & Battah Promotions.

In the main event of the FOX Sports Networks and FOX Deportes bi-lingual broadcast, undefeated rising star Omar “Panterita” Figueroa Jr. stunned the packed house by stopping Colombia’s Henry Aurad, 14-7-1 (11 KO’s), with a massive straight right hand to the chin in the first round. The knockout improved the Weslaco, Texas native’s record to 20-0-1 (15 KO’s), further proving he is a force to be reckoned with.
Also featured on the telecast, undefeated junior middleweight prospect Jermall Charlo of Houston, Texas remained unbeaten with a crowd pleasing third round stoppage of Gilbert Venegas whose record fell to 12-9-3 (8 KO’s). The win improved Charlo’s record to 12-0 (8 KO’s).
Desoto, Texas’ junior middleweight Errol Spence Jr. 4-0 (3 KO’s), a member of the 2012 United States Olympic Team, impressed San Antonio fans and those watching around the country with a four-round unanimous decision win over San Antonio’s Luis Torres, 4-3-3 (1 KO).
Non-televised results included big wins by numerous San Antonio favorites including light heavyweight Emanuel Ledezma, 12-1-1 (2 KO’s), who won a six-round decision victory over Felix Piedra, 8-2-1 (5 KO’s), and featherweight Joseph Rodriguez, 2-0 (1 KO), who stopped Elio Ruiz, 1-2-1, in the second round.
Popular fighting brothers, Felipe and Jairo Castaneda both posted wins, Felipe improving to 8-4-1 (3 KO’s), winning a six-round unanimous decision over Gabriel Rangel, 7-11-1 (3 KO’s), in their bantamweight clash, while 21-year-old Jairo improved to 2-0 (1 KO) with a four-round unanimous decision victory over debuting Christian Santibanez, also of San Antonio.
