Doberstein defeats Martinez; Micsko decisions Hafner

It was an eventful evening in Saarbruecken on Friday night, March 8, when DOG Eventboxing promoted a World Boxing Federation tripleheader at the Saarlandhalle. And plenty of good boxing for the enthusiastic crowd to cheer for, as local hero Juergen Doberstein passed his biggest test with flying colors.

Doberstein won the vacant WBF Intercontinental Super Middleweight title by out-boxing tough and experienced Spaniard Blas Miguel Martinez over twelve rounds. The German put on one of his best performances, and was awarded a unanimous decision by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110.

With the victory, 24-year-old Doberstein improves his professional record to 14-1-1 (4), while Martinez drops to 18-7 (9).

In the evenings co-feature, WBF Women’s Intercontinental Flyweight Champion Rajah Amasheh completely dominated late substitute Agnes Draxler from Hungary, stopping the out-gunned visitor at 1:11 of the fifth round. At the time of the stoppage Amasheh was ahead 40-36, 40-36 and 40-35 on the cards.

Amasheh is now 15-0-1 (4), and Draxler, who stepped in at short notice to replace former European Champion Corina Carlescu, falls to 4-4 (0).

Fellow Hungarians Ferenc Hafner and Sandor Micsko gave each other a hard back-and-forth battle for the vacant WBF International Middleweight crown, with the latter prevailing by unanimous decision after ten entertaining rounds of boxing.

Micsko (26) knocked his eleven years older compatriot down in round eight, and Hafner fought through the last two rounds with a severe nosebleed, but both boxers had their moments.

In the end the scores were 96-93, 96-93 and 98-92 in favor of Micsko, who took his professional ledger to 15-3-2 (11). Hafner lost for the third time in twenty outings and is now 17-3 (10).
