Canelo: Mayweather doesn’t want to fight me

alvarez5By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) tried and failed to exert pressure on Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) to get him to agree to a fight in September in exchange for Canelo agreeing to fight on his May 4th undercard.

Mayweather didn’t want to sign the contract to fight Canelo, and because of this Canelo pulled out of the card and will be fighting on separate date on April 20th against Austin Trout in San Antonio, Texas.

“I have no need for Mayweather to impose conditions because I can have my own fans…the truth is he does not want to fight me.”

Honestly, Mayweather won’t lose a lot by Canelo pulling out of the fight card, and if you think he will then watch how many Mexican fight fans end up purchasing his May 4th pay-per-view fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on Showtime/CBS.

This fight is the only game in town on Cinco de Mayo weekend on May 4th, and there will be massive amounts of Mexican boxing fans willing to pay $60-70 to see the fight. It doesn’t matter one bit that Canelo is pulling out of the fight because the results of him not being on the card will negligible.

There’s nothing to compete with the Mayweather-Guerrero card on May 4th, so Canelo is just hurting himself by pulling out of the fight.

Mayweather does want to fight Canelo, but he’s silly enough to sign for a fight against a guy that fights in a division ABOVE him in his second fight of his six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS. That’s just stupid because why would the 36-year-old Mayweather take a risk like that when he’s got all those other fights ahead of him on the contract.

I’m sure Canelo would do the same thing if he was 36-years-old, slowing down, and a younger fighter from a division above him wanted to fight him. Let’s be honest here, do you really think Canelo would make a move like that when he’s 36 and slowing down?

No way on earth would he do it, and if he did he’d likely get badly beaten because he’s a flat-footed fighter with limited stamina. Why isn’t Canelo fighting middleweights now? He’s being fight strictly welterweights recently. Why doesn’t Canelo fight WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin?

I’ve heard that Golovkin totally dominated Canelo in a sparring session not too long ago. Why isn’t Canelo trying to fight someone above him? Why isn’t Canelo trying to fight WBA middleweight champion Sergio Martinez? Do you see my point? Canelo wants to fight guys that are smaller than him, and then when he finally is met with someone that doesn’t want to go along the program, he gets bitter and pulls out of his card.

Why should Mayweather fight someone younger, and bigger than him when Canelo isn’t facing guys from the middleweight division that are bigger and stronger than him? Canelo hasn’t even fought the best junior middleweights yet, and here he wants Mayweather to fight him. What a joke.
