Mayweather will easily handle Guerrero on May 4th

floyd56By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) still hasn’t officially announced his May 4th fight with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) yet, but he’s expected to any day now, possibly this week. They need to get the fight announced so they can start building interest with fans to sell it on pay per view.

Mayweather has lost a lot of his ability to move around the ring in the last three years. Starting with his fight with Shane Mosley in 2010, Mayweather has become almost entirely a stationary fighter. He does move, but he walks now instead of moving around quickly on his toes the way he did in his prime.

If you compare how Mayweather fights now with how he fought back in 1998 when he was beating the likes of Angel Manfredy, Genaro Hernandez, Tony Pep and Gustavo Fabian Cuello, it’s like night and day. Mayweather was a much more mobile fighter back then than he is now.

It’s clear that his career is coming to an end because he’s not going to be able to keep winning for too much longer with his legs gone.

However, he’s not going to need movement to beat Guerrero on May 4th because his hand speed, accuracy, experience and athletic ability will lead him to an easy one-sided victory. Guerrero’s fighting style is perfect for Mayweather.

Guerrero likes to walk into shots with his face first fighting style, and you can’t have a fighter like that facing Mayweather because it’s too easy for him. Guerrero is like a more wide open Ricky Hatton, and Mayweather is going to really work him over on May 4th when they meet up at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero is too flat-footed for his own good, and he has a bad habit of trying to slug it out with all of his opponents. Mayweather is going to be able to hit him cleanly all night long, and Guerrero is going to have to possess a great chin if he’s to survive for long in this fight.

Guerrero did a great job of taking the shots from Andre Berto in his last fight in November, but that was against a fighter with poor stamina, and who made the mistake of trying to use the Mayweather shoulder roll defense without knowing how to use it.

Berto ended up taking a real pounding. Mayweather knows the shoulder roll, and he’s going to be able to get out of the way of most of Guerrero’s shots in this fight to cruise to an easy victory.
