Mayweather: I’m about to cash out on a 30 month run

mayweather5555By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. sees himself cashing out with his latest six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS that he has 30 months to complete. Mayweather was the one that insisted on the fight contract being done quickly, possibly because he wants to look for another contract if he’s still unbeaten and fighting at a high level by the time he finishes the six fights.

Mayweather starts the contract with a fight against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on May 4th at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Mayweather’s next fight after that could be against IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander, who Mayweather mentioned recently as someone he wants to fight.

Mayweather said to fighthype.com “I’m just doing it real quick within 30 months…your big bro has a 30 month run, and, yes, I’m about to cash out.”

You can read that as meaning one or two things. Either Mayweather is meaning he’ll cash out his career at the end of the six-fight deal, or he means he’s cashing the money as quick as he can before going for another multi-fight deal with Showtime/CBS. I find it hard to imagine Mayweather still being unbeaten at the end of the six-fight contract, and still fighting at a high level.

Mayweather didn’t look so great in his last fight against Miguel Cotto and that was a year ago. Mayweather looked at 75% of what he once was a year ago, and figuring for the rust and age that another year away from action has done to him, my guess is Mayweather will be close to 70% for his fight with Guerrero.

Is that enough for him to beat Guerrero? Probably because Guerrero is a pretty limited fighter with zero hand speed and zero defensive skills. But Mayweather is going to continue to age, and I just don’t see him winning all six fights and then looking for another contract with Showtime/CBS. I think it might be the end of the road for Mayweather by the time the contract is complete.
