Golovkin vs. Ishida: Gennady needs to take Nobuhiro out fast

golovkin45By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) will be fighting a stay busy fight against 37-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (24-8-2, 9 KO’s) on March 30th in Monte Carlo. This is going to be a pretty one-sided fight for as long as it last, as Ishida is nowhere near as good as Golovkin.

However, Gennady can’t feel sorry for Ishida and just let him hang around for nothing. Golovkin has to take him out of there quickly in order to keep impressing fans.

Golovkin had problems taking out his last opponent Gabriel Rosado last January due to Rosado using constant movement to avoid Golovkin’s big shots. Ishida will use the same strategy, only he’ll be a lot better because he’s got longer arms than Rosado and he’s a much more mobile fighter. Golovkin can expect to have to chase him around the ring in order to get him out of there.

Ishida’s career has taken a turn for the worse lately after losing to Paul Williams and Dmitry Pirog in his last two fights. Ishida got a lot of attention after beat James Kirkland by a 1st round knockout in April 2011 in a surprise win, but Ishida was unable to sustain the momentum from that win and was beaten two fights later by Paul Williams.

Golovkin is trying to become a star in the United States, but he’s not getting any help from the top tier stars because he’s considered too dangerous and not well known enough. To try and take care of that problem, Golovkin’s handlers want to have him fight between five and six times in 2013, and then keep up the pace in 2014 in order to saturate the American boxing public with Golovkin.

Golovkin will need to cut off the ring on Ishida on March 30th, and nail him with hard hooks to the head and body. Ishida doesn’t have a good inside game, so that’s an area where Golovkin should be able to take advantage of him.
