Fury: I’m no longer interested in fighting David Price

price42By Scott Gilfoid: Well, it looks like British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) has finally found the perfect excuse for why he doesn’t need to fight British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) and risk his neck in doing so.

Fury is now saying that he doesn’t want to fight Price because he was knocked out last Saturday in the 2nd round by 41-year-old Tony Thompson.

I could have predicted this coming from a million miles away, and I’m just wondering why it took Fury so long to think it up?

Fury said to Manchester Evening News “I’ve got no interest in fighting David Price. It’s dead in the water. What’s the point in fighting someone who was knocked out in two rounds? If I don’t do the same to him then people will say I couldn’t even do as good a job as a 41-year-old.”

It’s pretty sad that Fury had to use this as an excuse to avoid a fight that he’d very likely lose. I mean, just because the American Thompson was able to KO Price doesn’t mean the slapper Fury could be able to do it too. The difference here is that Thompson has actually has some power, whereas Fury can’t punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

If you don’t know Thompson out, he’s going to give you all kinds of problems as we saw in his many fights. He’s a tough 6’5” southpaw and he can hurt you. Look at Thompson’s knockout wins over Chazz Witherspoon, Luan Krasniqi and Owen Beck. I’d venture to say that Fury’s chin is no better than those fighters.

The difference is he’s 6’9”, and those guys are around 6’3” to 6’4”. If Fury had to get hit as much as those guys did by Thompson, I feel pretty sure that the results would be the same with Fury getting knocked out by Thompson too.
It’s just so sad that Fury is using Price’s knockout loss as an excuse so that he doesn’t have to fight him now. Price wouldn’t have to worry Fury’s shots because he doesn’t have the power that Thompson has, and I think it would end badly Fury. Of course, with him choosing not to fight Price then he doesn’t have to worry.

Fury will be facing Steve Cunningham (25-5, 12 KO’s) on April 20th at the Madison Square Garden Theater, in New York, New York, USA. They picked a small fighter out for Fury’s fight in the United States, no doubt to make sure Fury didn’t get beaten. It’s too bad they didn’t take Deontay Wilder or Bryant Jennings because I think Fury would have a lousy trip to the U.S if he were to face one of those guys.
