Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees: Broner respected but so hard to like

BronerReesNYPC_Hoganphotos(1)(Rich Kane – Hoganphotos/Golden Boy Promotions) Adrien Broner has to be respected, his style in the ring is top notch. The defensive style he uses with the speed and power behind it is a joy to watch. The “new Mayweather” even boxes like the pretty boy and tries to talk like him outside the ring. So far in his career he has 25 fights with 21 knock-outs and no losses.

In most of his fights he has decided what pace to use and when to step it up, he often decides in which round he will knock his opponent out. No one has really tested this young boxer and taken his skills to the limit.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is a name which will be used a lot in describing Broner, he is basing his style and attitude around Floyd and is one of the few people to do it correctly in the ring. I like PBF but Broner is trying too hard, he is too thirsty in his actions outside the ring.

When he pretended to propose to his girlfriend in front of the HBO cameras after a convincing win it was just embarrassing. It was a cringy moment that made him look stupid in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong PBF is hated by a lot of people but he is a extremely smart human being when it comes to boxing and selling huge fights. I enjoy PBF’s trash talk just like the next person, he attracts a lot of attention and builds hype from being cocky and brash, he does it well. I think with Broner its stupid at times and for me makes him look like an idiot.

At the press conference Broner pretended not to know Rees name (many Mayweather’s do this from Roger to Senior). Gavin didn’t really seem to care, hes a boxer which likes to talk inside the ring instead and isn’t about trash talking and building hype. In saying this is I am not a Broner hater. I do enjoy watching this man box he is extremely talented and I look forward to watching his career progress one challenge at a time. The challenge this weekned is Gavin “The Rock” Rees, not a easy bout by any means.

However, despite not liking the guys personalty I will be tuning in this Saturday to watch the fight, mainly because Broner is nice in the ring. Gavin Rees is the huge underdog in this one, no one can see him winning. Most people can’t even see “The Rock” last until the final round. The odds are huge even for Broner to win on points. I like Rees he is a tough guy, I don’t think he will be as easy to KO as many people are predicting. He might cause Broner some problems that other fighters haven’t but its hard to see Rees come with a win. Both Fighters are actually the same size prior to what others are saying but the important thing in this fight is the reach difference. Broner has the reach advantage and for Rees to stand a chance he will have to be able to take some big punches and try and brawl with this guy and try to disrupt the defensive style Broner boxes with. One problem which might arise for Broner is a clash of heads, I think Rees will he trying to stay as close to Broner as possible and this might cause some problems as it did in the first Derry Mathews clash.

Predictions

After the trash talking interviews and the likely flash, rap style entrance, I think Broner will back up his words and get the win but what will interest me is how he will get it. I could be like everyone else and predict the likely Broner KO win(9th round for me If I was going for a KO) but instead I will say Broner UD. (Which is a huge 6-1 at the bookies). Gavin Rees is as hard as nails and just might very well take this guy the full way, but he will have to take an vicious onslaught if he is to hear the final bell.
