Tyson Fury vs. David Price possible for June

price43By Scott Gilfoid: A big fight between unbeaten British heavyweight Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) and David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) is being planned for June. Price’s promoter Frank Maloney is reportedly offering the 24-year-old Fury £1 million to take the fight, which is pretty absurd money for a guy that hasn’t yet won a world title.

Maloney said to thesun.co.uk “I have met with people who will finance the show to good numbers. We will stage the bout where the best deal is available at Anfield or London. They are the only places the fight can go.”

It sounds like a great fight, doesn’t it? However, I have a feeling that Fury won’t take the fight and instead will look to wait for a title shot or a title eliminator bout for the WBC strap. I doubt that Fury will make more than £1 million in a title fight against WBC champion Vitali Klitschko, but he’d have a better excuse if he loses than he would if Price beats him.

A loss to Price would be a huge blow to Fury’s career because Price is just a contender and he’s not considered to be a superb fighter like Vitali is.

More than likely Fury will turn down the fight with Price, and then look to work his way into a title shot. The WBC strap could end up getting vacated in 2013 by Vitali because I don’t think he wants to hold onto the title for too much longer. He’s got his political career in Ukraine to fall back on, and he’s also made tons of cash already and he doesn’t really need money at this point in his career. I’d be really surprised if Vitali ever fights again. If he hangs them up it’ll be Fury’s good luck because he would never be able to beat a fighter like Vitali, even the current 41-year-old version.

If the Price-Fury fight does get made this year, I see Price winning by knockout. Fury is still so easy to hit, and he has a nasty habit of turning his head sideways when shots are coming his way. Price take advantage of Fury’s lack of defensive skills by knocking him out.

Price will have to win his next fight against Tony Thompson on February 23rd in order to move ahead and get the Fury fight.
