Jeff Mayweather: Guerrero will get KO’d if he fights aggressive against Floyd Jr.

guerrero467By Chris Williams: Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr, thinks WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will have to changed his fighting strategy completely when and if he gets the May 4th fight with Floyd Jr. because he thinks the aggressiveness that Guerrero showed against Andre Berto recently would get him knocked out quick if he tries that against Floyd Jr.

Jeff said to fighthubtv.com “Floyd is too smart for either one of them [Saul “Canelo” Alvarez & Guerrero]. With Groves being aggressive, he’s going to have to change that or he’s going to get knocked out because Floyd will run him into something. If he fights Floyd the same way he fought Andre Berto.”

Jeff went onto say that he thinks Floyd Jr. should retire after he beats Guerrero and Canelo since he doesn’t see anyone else out there for Floyd Jr. to fight. Floyd Jr. will obviously stick around to longer, but there really won’t be anyone for him to fight other than Sergio Martinez.

That’s the only fight left after Mayweather Jr. beats Canelo and Guerrero. You can’t say Manny Pacquiao because he’ll likely be retired by Juan Manuel Marquez this September in another knockout loss, so you can forget all about a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight.

Guerrero won’t change his aggressive fighting style because that’s how he always fights. He’s captured world titles at featherweight and super featherweight, as well as interim straps at lightweight and welterweight with his aggressive style of fighting. He’s not going to change his fighting style just because he’s fighting Mayweather, and it’s probably going to lead to him getting beaten up and possibly stopped.

The one thing we don’t know about with Guerrero is how physical he’ll be with Mayweather Jr. If things aren’t going Guerrero’s way, he could start fouling with his holding and hitting, rabbit punches, and elbows.

I expect Guerrero to try and take Mayweather Jr. out of his game by using these tactics to get the upper hand somehow. I don’t think it’s going to work because Mayweather is too smart for those mind games to get to him. Guerrero really worked over Berto last November with rough fighting style.
