Chisora hoping to get his boxing license back to fight on March 16th

By Scott Gilfoid: Former British/Commonwealth heavyweight champion Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) is hoping he can get his boxing license back in time for him to fight on the March 16th fight card at the Wembley Arena in London. Chisora, 29, is reportedly taking anger management classes in hopes of getting the Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) to give him back his boxing license after they took it away last year following his brawl with David Haye in February after Chisora’s loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko.

As part of the anger management classes, Chisora has been listening to whale music. He said to thsun.co.uk “Now you can insult me and I won’t react. The board came up with the idea…But if it doesn’t work, I want my money back.”

Chisora fought last year without the Boxing Board’s approval in his 5th round knockout loss to Haye in July, and he looked and fought terrible. However, if the Board is asking that Chisora take the anger management classes in order for him to get his license back then it’s a good sign that they may indeed give him his license back.

Just because Chisora gets his boxing license back it doesn’t mean he’s going to find success. He’s already been beaten in four out of his last five fights and that suggests that Chisora can’t cut it at the world level. Sure, he can fight at the domestic level but that’s probably not the kind of career that he was hoping to have.

At this rate it’s going to take Chisora a long time to climb up back up to where anyone will give him another title shot, especially after the way he acted before and after his fight with Vitali. Chisora did a lot of odd things, such as slapping Vitali at the weigh-in before the fight, spitting in Wladimir Klitschko’s face, and then getting involved in a brawl with Haye. I just don’t see any heavyweight champion volunteering to fight Chisora, and without that happening it’s going to take Chisora ages to get to the #1 spot. I don’t think he’s going to be able to do it.
