Bernd Bönte said that he was told by the President of the Federation of German Professional Boxing Association (BDB), Thomas Putz about Wach’s positive drug test, according to German news site Bild.de. The positive test for anabolic steroids came from a sample A test.

Wach is reportedly denying being guilty of using drugs, and he and his management will likely be asking for the sample B to undergo tests so that he can be cleared the positive test results.

The tests do have errors, which is why there’s two samples routinely taken from the fighters.

Wach didn’t look like a fighter who was on steroids for the Wladimir fight, as he appeared thin and without much in the way of muscles.

If the B sample turns out to be positive as well, the 32-year-old Wach will face a long suspension in both European and the United States.

Wach didn’t perform well against Wladimir apart from in the 5th round when he had Wladimir hurt after hitting him with a huge right hand. Wach missed his chance to KO Wladimir after missing with a flurry of punches and being tied up in a clinch. Wach gassed out after that and he took heavy punishment from Wladimir from the 7th round on.

You can make an argument that the fight should have been stopped by the 8th round because Wladimir was really teeing off on Wach with heavy power shots, and Wach was just taking the punishment without really throwing anything back. He obviously was left in there because of his potential to end the fight any moment because of his power. However, he never did land a big enough shot after the 5th to really worry Wladimir.
