Tyson Fury: I will rule the heavyweight division

fury67By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight contender Tyson Fury (20-0, 14 KO’s) sees himself taking over the heavyweight division. Fury, 24, said on his twitter “I will rule the heavyweight division.” Fury didn’t give a timeline for when he’s going to accomplish this task and how he would actually go about doing it. I guess it’s kind of easier said than done for the British Fury, who seems to talk much better than he fights.

We’re still waiting on when Fury will face his first quality opponent of his career. So far the closest thing you can come to Fury fighting a quality opponent was a badly out of shape Dereck Chisora that Fury beat last year in July.

That’s not much of a win even if Chisora had been in shape, he clearly because he weighed 261 pounds for the fight, 15 pounds more than he usually does. The rest of Fury’s wins have been pretty much fodder opposition. So my question is when and how will Fury rule the heavyweight division? I don’t see him ruling anything anytime soon.

Fury’s problem is that he’s not a big puncher and he still gets hit quite easy. This means that he finally steps it up several levels from the god awful opposition he’s currently fighting then he’s going to get battered and knocked out, and there’s not much he can do about it. When you’re used to fighting low level fodder, there’s a certain shock that comes into play when you finally have to step it up. I see that happening with Fury when he finally faces his first quality opponent.

Fury’s Waterloo is going to come when he faces one of these guys:

Deontay Wilder
Denis Boytsov
Kubrat Pulev
David Price
Magomed Abdusalamov
Johnathon Banks
Chris Arreola
Alexander Povetkin

I rank Fury well behind those guys and I think some of the other heavyweight contenders could surprise Fury as well, like Christian Hammer, David Haye, Joe Hanks, Ruslan Chagaev, Tomasz Adamek and Alexander Ustinov.

I don’t see Fury ruling anything, not even his own country. I mean, maybe he can rule Ireland but he’s not even from Ireland, so I don’t see any victory there either.
