So who is this Amir Khan?

khan432By John Woolford: This man is brash, he’s at times so cock sure that his behavior can be seen as outright arrogant but lets not forget that this is Amir Khan, a fighter who without fail gets our attention. Love him or hate him he brings to the game a display that the majority of other fighters clearly do not bring which is controversy and lets not forget that controversy is what the sport of boxing has always thrived on.

Is a poster of Amir Khan peering down at me from my bedroom wall? Certainly not, my wife would be worried and rightfully so but what I (and surely you too) can respect Amir Khan for is the fact that he’s climbed the greasy pole within the boxing ranks never ducking anyone which is what defines a genuine pugilist.

Through out boxing history we’ve seen a whole list of controversial brash living and talking fighters who’ve made boxing what it is today such as the likes of Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Primo Carnera, Jake Lamotta, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sonny Liston, Muhammad Ali, Larry Frazier, Mitch Green, Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe, Andrew Galota, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Naseem Hamed, Hector Camacho and Floyd Mayweather jr to name a few so it’s clear what boxing can be in need of.

Amir Khan is from Pakistan, in that part of the world men are bred to say what they often think saying it as blunt and as brash as possible. When it comes to achieving anything they don’t ration their opinion which is what we’ve noticed with Amir Khan. Also Pakistani’s are not cowards, back in Dubai I had a few work for me and you can rely on them not to run from the opposition.

Love or hate Amir Khan he brings to boxing what boxing has always demanded from the pugilist which is non stop action and controversy with a life style that knocks the wind out of any story line within a soap opera.

I’m not the biggest Amir Khan fan but as a fellow Brit I’m backing him and can be proud of what he’s so far achieved. He’s not perfect, he’s only human, he’s young and and like any of us can always still mature a little further. He has the potential to beat all the best which he will achieve unless he continues to allow the moment to lead him down a path he shouldn’t be going.

He did very well in his latest fight, what he’s learnt of late from his new trainer won’t be apparent within his first return fight especially after suffering a KO. Adjusting to the technique of a new trainer takes a good two or three fights so if you understand boxing you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Amir Khan is a brash character within boxing which makes him good for the sport so I’m sure we can all cut him some slack.
