Moreno defeats Kentikian
By Jim Dower: 31-year-old Carina Moreno (23-5, 6 KO’s) defeated former WIBF/WBA/WBO female flyweight champion Susi Kentikian (29-2, 16 KO’s) by a 10 round split decision to capture the vacant World Boxing Association female flyweight title on Saturday night at the Burg-Waechter Castello, Düsseldorf, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. The final judges scores were 96-94, 96-94 for Moreno, and 97-93 for Kentikian.
Kentikian fought no different than she had in several of her fights that she had won in the past. However, the difference here is that two of the judges saw her losing this time. Kentikian was caught a lot as she rushed forward looking to land combinations in her brawling style of fighting.
Going into the fight Kentikian was expected to win because Moreno lost her last two fights going into it. However, in woman’s boxing it’s very difficult to really gauge what’s going to happen just by losing at records because the styles of the fighters seems to be the difference.
With this loss Kentikian has now lost her last two fights. She doesn’t look like her game has lost anything, as she still looks the same as ever. The difference just seems to be that the judges haven’t been giving her the close decisions like they’ve done in the past.
