khan6712By Allan Fox: Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) may have had an easy fight against Carlos Molina (17-1, 7 KO’s) on the surface, but it wasn’t all that easy on Khan’s hands, as he reportedly fractured both hands in stopping the 5’6” Molina in the 10th. Sky Sports News is reporting that both of Khan’s hands are fractured. Khan’s hands were photographed and both of them do look swollen, especially his right hand. It’s badly swollen.

This isn’t good news for Khan and Golden Boy Promotions, because they want to get Khan back in the ring in the first part of next year to fight possibly Josesito Lopez, and if Khan has going to have both hands in a cast for 6 weeks and it’s going to slow things down.

If you look at how Khan fought against Molina it’s really not surprising that Khan fractured his hands, because he was throwing a lot of wide slapping shot, and many of his punches were hitting the top of the short 5’6” Molina’s head without making fall contact. It looked like Khan’s hands were bending a lot when he was punching instead of staying straight.

Molina didn’t have much offensive power to really challenge Khan in this fight, although did make a decent go of it in the early rounds. Khan dominated the fight in every round, but really started pulling away from Molina from the 4th round on. It was a one-sided beat down from that point on and Molina’s corner perhaps should have thought about stopping it when he was no longer bring effective.

Khan did take a number of left hooks and right hands in the early part of the fight when he was fighting aggressively with a lot of nervous energy. Khan would throw flurries and Molina would frequently catch him with a hard shot in between the flurries. But he didn’t have the size and the power that Khan’s last opponent Danny Garcia had, so was able to take whatever punches that Molina would throw.
