Image: Golovkin vs. Rosado: Gennady needs better opposition than thisBy Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21 KO’s) wants to become a big star in the United States but it may be slow going because he’s not getting the top fighters to voluntarily face him. Instead of a big name for his next fight, Golovkin has to settle for Gabriel Rosado (21-5, 13 KO’s) to defend his title against on January 19th at Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York, USA.

I don’t really rate Rosado as a true middleweight. He’s been fighting at junior middleweight since he started his career in 2006, and he’ll be stepping up in weight in this fight to take on Golovkin. That’s not the ideal situation, is it? Rosado was blown out in two rounds by Alfredo Angulo just a couple of years ago, and he’s still the same fighter that Angulo destroyed.

Golovkin may have to carry this guy if he wants to let the boxing fans see much of him because I have a feeling that if he turns on the after jets on Rosado, we may see a 1st round knockout on January 19th. It’s going to be most likely an early knockout, but I think this end really quickly if Golovin wants to get Rosado out of there fast.

This is disappointing because Golovkin really needs guys like Sergio Martinez, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Daniel Geale, Felix Sturm and Peter Quillin to be agreeing to fight him because those are the guys that are going to help make a star out of Golovkin. They can feed 100 Rosados to Golovkin and it won’t do much for him because Rosado isn’t a star and he’s already been beaten a number of times. Boxing fans want to see Golovkin take on Quillin. That would be the most logical fight for Golovkin right now because Quillin is hardly a star himself and it would be a nice unification bout.

Right now I’d be happy just to see Golovkin face Hassan N’Dam NiJikam in order to show the difference between how he deals with N’Dam and how Quillin did in his recent win over him. It’s doubtful that the Golden Boy promoted Quillin will be allowed to fight Golovkin, because of the likelihood of something bad happening to Quillin but I’d like to see that fight in the near future. Willit happen? No, I don’t think so. Golden Boy probably isn’t going to let Quillin take fight due to the way he struggled in beating N’Dam.
