Glazkov defeats Hamer
By Jim Dower: Former 2008 Olympic super heavyweight bronze medalist from Ukraine Vyacheslav Glazkov (13-0, 9 KO’s) stayed unbeaten with a fourth round stoppage victory on Saturday night against American former heavyweight Prizefighter tournament winner Tor Hamer (19-2, 12 KO’s) at the Sands Casino Resort, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA.
The 6’3” heavy-handed Glazkov, 28, wore the 6’2” Hamer down with hard power shots in rounds one through four. After the fourth round, Hamer decided to play it safe by not coming out for the 5th round.
Although Glazkov won the fight, he didn’t look like future world champion material. He’s not big enough, quick enough or powerful enough to mix it up with the big heavyweights in the division. He did alright with Hamer, but there’s a big difference between Hamer and the better heavyweights in the division.
Glazkov looks like a good gatekeeper type of heavyweight, somewhat in the Alexander Dimitrenko mold. He’s good but not good enough to go much beyond this.
