Image: Gesta vs. Vazquez on Saturday night: Will we see a controversial decision?By Chris Williams: I have a premonition that tomorrow night we’re going to see an ugly, ugly controversial decision in the Mercito Gesta (26-0, 14 KO’s) vs. IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (32-3, 13 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

I hate the idea of controversial decisions because they’re like a cancer to the sport of boxing, but I see this happening tomorrow night with Gesta being given a decision in a fight that he gets dominated in by Vazquez. This fight is similar to the Brandon Rios vs. Richard Abril bout with Vazquez playing the part of Abril.

Vazquez is going to box circles around the short, easy to hit Gesta in this fight, and I can’t see Gesta even winning a round unless it’s a round that Vazquez purposely takes off. But Vazquez isn’t the type to take rounds of, so I see it as a one-sided 12 rounds to 0 score for Vazquez. However, that doesn’t mean I think Vazquez is going to win.

I don’t see that happening at all. I think Gesta wins this fight with the MGM Grand crowd erupting in a long sustained period of booing from their unhappiness at the decision.

I’ve already seen Gesta win a controversial decision in the past against Manuel Perez, and I rate Vazquez as a much better fighter than Perez. He’ll dominate Gesta even more than Perez did, but I think it could be for nothing.

If I’m Vazquez’s trainer I’d be telling him to try as hard as he can to score a knockout because he doesn’t want to take the chance of letting the fight to the score cards and finding himself on the receiving end of a controversial decision.
