George Groves dominates a legend Glen Johnson

By Mark Havey: Tonight the young commonwealth super middleweight champion, George Groves, proved just how talented he is. His speed and power were just too much. His chin was impressive after he practically invited Johnson to hit it on a few occasions.

The fight was so one sided it was shocking to see. Groves dominated Glen Johnson who has literally faced the best, but none had dominated him like that. Saint George started fast as always. Johnson was rocked early and seemed to scared to throw punches after that. And whenever he did throw a punch, Groves countered with brutal combinations to the head a body.

It was only George Groves 16th fight, which makes the win and statement of his ability even more impressive. No one has ever doubted the power that Groves fist, but I certainly didn’t expect him to hurt Johnson as easily as he did. I expected Groves to pick the more experienced man apart with his jab. But instead he imposed his superiority with hard and hurtful hooks and uppercuts.

Groves said after the fight that he had learnt a lot, mainly not to waste punches. He seemed evidently shocked at the ease in which he controlled the fight. Johnson will likely retire. It’s difficult to say whether he can go on and rise again. He didn’t throw enough punches to show anyone what he has left. He covered up well throughout the fight, but that’s about it.
