Danny Garcia doubts Khan would give him a rematch if he won their previous fight

khan222By William Mackay: WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (25-0, 16 KO’s) doesn’t think Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) would be giving him a rematch if Khan had beaten him last July instead of the other way around. Garcia thinks Khan doesn’t give guys rematches after he beats them, even when it’s a fight where boxing fans really want to see the rematch like in Khan’s in over Marcos Maidana.

Khan called Garcia out last Saturday night after Khan’s 10th round knockout win over Carlos Molina at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.

Garcia said to thesun.co.uk “If I have to give Khan another shot then I will give him another. If he had won our fight back in the summer, do you think he would have given me a rematch? No, no way.”

Garcia is probably right. Khan doesn’t like to go backwards for fights, and he even didn’t bother attempting to avenge his 1st round knockout loss to Breidis Prescott back in 2008. Choosing not to fight Prescott again was made easier when Prescott was soon after beaten by Kevin Mitchell from the UK, but still it showed how much Khan dislikes fighting the same guys again. However, the Garcia fight is a lot different for Khan.

Khan absolutely needs to face Garcia again because the loss took a lot of the shine off of Khan’s career, and too many boxing fans saw the fight, unlike the Khan-Prescott fight which was televised only in the UK. Both American and UK boxing fans saw Khan get obliterated by Garcia, and he absolutely needs to beat Garcia to get back what he lost from that fight.

Khan won’t be able to win back his popularity with boxing fans by beating guys like Carlos Molina, Paul McCloskey or Zab Judah. Khan has to avenge his loss to Garcia otherwise he’ll be seen as a fighter that is ducking the fight, especially if Golden Boy keeps matching Khan with soft touches.

Garcia wants to be paid a lot better for the Khan rematch than he was last time. Garcia received $559.000 for the fight compared to Khan’s $1.1 million. Garcia is now the one with the titles, whereas Khan has none for this fight.

Garcia has a fight coming up against one of Khan’s old victims Zab Judah (42-7, 29 KO’s) on February 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This is expected to be a mismatch, as Judah hasn’t beaten anyway really good for a long time other than his controversial decision over Lucas Matthysse in a fight that many boxing fans had Judah losing.
