Boxing Blessed With Talent Rich 140lb and 147lb Weight Divisions.

pac43by Chris Miller: We may not be gifted enough to have a talent stacked heavyweight division in boxing anymore but we certainly do have talent rich Light Welterweight and Welterweight divisions. We have a whole list of fighters out there who really excite me and who can really propel boxing in 2013! There are the obvious names like Manny Pacquaio and Floyd Mayweather but I really feel boxing is starting to ever so slightly move past these two GREAT fighters.

The boxing world is moving into a transitional phase with regards to the 140lb and 147lb divisions, many fight fans have one eye and one ear on who the next big star is going to be. Who is going to be boxing’s new  ‘poster boy’? The obvious fighter that springs to mind is Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner but we are lucky to have many other young, hungry and exciting fighters out there at the moment.

The Manny Pacquaio Vs Floyd Mayweather saga is at an absolute stalemate (a truly unfair punishment on boxing fans in my opinion), the whole situation between the two made   me very frustrated with boxing for a while until I saw the light at the end of the tunnel when I started to turn my attention to fighters who perhaps deserve a little more attention from us enthusiasts of the art. People like Broner, Brook, Khan, Garcia, Bradley, Ortiz (I still have faith in his ability), Berto, Guerrero, Rios and many more. These guys really have wet the appetite of fight fans and rightly so. There are fights that should be made, here in the U.K Brook Vs Khan has to happen while the two are on the up and are very fresh in the minds of boxing fans.

This fight could easily sell out a stadium like the Reebok Arena (28,723 capacity) which is Bolton FC’s home ground and also Khans home ground. It’s Khans destiny to fight Brook at the Reebok and it must happen in the U.K as there are nobody that are more passionate about seeing these two go toe to toe than the British themselves. This fight would really bring the buzz for boxing in the U.K to a new higher level and remind us of those exciting Benn Vs Eubank-esque nights.

I would also love to see Broner vs Bradley (I know my hopes are quite high here but I’m an optimist), this fight would be a great fight styles wise and I believe Broner would win and win well! I do feel Kell Brook is an underrated fighter in many fans eyes across the pond but time will tell I suppose, it’s really refreshing to see we have two fighters over here in the U.K in Khan and Brook who can offer some of the American guys stiff competition, it’s very good for boxing to have international competition I believe and really adds to the rivalry.

Hopefully Victor Ortiz can get himself in the correct place mentally to resurrect his career after all he is still a very talented fighter when he has his head screwed on properly.

I also think Robert Guerrero Vs Brandon Rios would be a good match stylistically, I don’t  feel Guerrero is deserving of a shot at Mayweather just yet, although he has fought well and hard in his last two fights. The only people Mayweather and Pacquaio should be fighting is each other period. The fighters are there all we need is the promoters to make the correct fights, move over Manny and Floyd the new kids are in town. Expect a changing of the guard in boxing in 2013.
