Beristain: I hope Pacquiao comes at Marquez recklessly

Image: Beristain: I hope Pacquiao comes at Marquez recklesslyBy Chris Williams: Nacho Beristain, the famous trainer of Juan Manuel Marquez, is really hoping that Manny Pacquiao decides to fight as aggressively as he and his trainer Freddie Roach have been talking about. Beristain sees this as something that will work against the Filipino fighter if he chooses to try and really turn back the clocks to get back to the “Old Manny” from 4000 yesterdays ago.

Beristain said to RingTV “If Pacquiao comes at us recklessly, like he’s going to try to knock us out, that’s going to be great for us, because he will open up, and we’ll be able to land not only three, but maybe five shots.”

I hope Pacquiao doesn’t bum rush Marquez because he’ll be picking himself up off the canvas if he tries now. Marquez has put on a ton of muscle and he’s punching holes through his sparring partners with his new strength.

If Pacquiao foolishly follows his trainer Roach’s simplistic advice in trying to get back to his youth by fighting like a wild man against Marquez, Pacquiao is going to take some awful punishment in this fight and probably get cut up, and knocked out. It’s just so silly for Pacquiao to even be considering trying to get back his old style at this age of 34.

He’s really like an old car with ton of miles on him, and Roach wants him to go at max rpms for this fight. You can’t do that with an old fighter like Pacquiao, because he’ll breakdown and be left on the side of the road, badly in need of a tow by Roach.

That would be an ugly sight, Pacquiao falling apart from exhaustion and Roach unable to switch Pacquiao to Plan B or Plan C. You can’t take an old fighter like Pacquiao and try to make him fight like a young one because he’s too long in the tooth now. We’ve seen that in his last few fights. Pacquiao is looking slower, and not able to move or throw punches like he once did. He’s not knocked anyone out in three years.
