Image: Wladimir Klitscko vs. Mariusz Wach summaryBy Ben Coleman: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitscko (59-3, 50 KO’s) worked away like a surgeon against Mariusz Wach ( 27-1, 15 KO’s) on Saturday night in Hamburg. The first 5 rounds the Ukraine giant was systematically breaking down the pole with flush jabs and chopping right hands, Wladimir was making this look like shooting fish in a barrel.

However, during the last minute of round 5, Wach caught Wladimir and seemed to have him in trouble against the ropes but Klitscko being the smart boxer he is covered up and was pivoting to make Wach’s barrage of punches miss making Wladimir come off the ropes to clinch onto Wach to get out of the round.

Round 8, Klitscko answered back in vintage style with combinations trying to end it there and then but Wach with great courage managed to hold on and survive the round. After round 8 both men looked tried, especially Wach who was tired after round 4-5. Wladimir stepped off the gas the last 4 rounds but still dominating the fight with the crisp jabs and rights to lead to the cruising unanimous
decision.

This was a spectacular performance in Heavy Weight boxing. Wladimir was throwing more jabs and right hands and the odd left hook now and again, more than his previous fights, really testing the Ukrainians stamina. Wach, hats off, gave it a go but just lacked the defense and speed to really make a difference but WE CAN ALL AGREE, Wach has a great chin to absorb that much punishment during the fight, no doubt about it. This overall was a great night for Heavy Weight boxing, respect to both fighters.
