Warren wants Cleverly vs. Froch in 2013

Image: Warren wants Cleverly vs. Froch in 2013By Scott Gilfoid: British boxing promoter Frank Warren is interested in putting a fight together between his guy WBO light heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (25-0, 12 KO’s) and Carl Froch (30-2, 22 KO’s) for 2013 at the Millennium Stadium in Wales. The Millennium Stadium seats 74,500 and it’s kind of a no brainer for Froch to agree to fight given that he’s been fighting in front of crowds of only 10,000 at the Nottingham Arena. Do the math. What’s the better deal?

Warren said in his column thesun.co.uk “I’d really love to put together would be Cleverly against Froch, indoors or out, at the Millenium Stadium…Froch won’t even have to put his super middle world title on the line.”

In other words, Froch would be moving up in weight seven pounds to take on the unbeaten Cleverly.

I don’t see why Froch doesn’t take the fight. I mean, he just finished facing Yusaf Mack for crying out loud. That fight was a MUCH smaller fight than if Froch were to take on Cleverly. So why doesn’t Froch do this?

Some boxing fans think that Froch is ducking Cleverly because he’s a little bigger than him, he has a great chin and he throws a ton of punches. Froch would never outwork Cleverly in a million years, and he’s not going to stop him because Cleverly’s head is like a concrete wall; shots just bounce of of it. I think we’d see Froch take another loss if he took that fight, hence I don’t see Froch ever agreeing to the fight despite the huge cash that he could make.

It’s too bad because Cleverly still hasn’t been beaten yet and once he faces Bernard Hopkins and/or Chad Dawson he’ll be registering his first loss of his career. Once that happens a Cleverly vs. Froch fight won’t be nearly as interesting as it is right now.
