Image: Roger Mayweather doesn't take Gamboa seriously as opponent for Floyd JrBy Chris Williams: Promoter 50 Cent [Curtis Jackson] put out his feelers for a fight between one of his stable fighters Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) and his former friend Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently, saying on twitter that Gamboa wanted to move up in weight to fight Mayweather Jr. This has been met with silence from Mayweather Jr.

However, Mayweather Jr’s uncles Jeff and Roger Mayweather were reported amused and confused by the offer given the huge size difference between the much bigger Mayweather Jr. compared to the tiny 5’5″ Gamboa.

Roger told writer Chris Robinson at examiner.com “What the f*** is Gamboa going to do with Floyd? Listen, that’s just talk. If [Gamboa] thought he would whopp Floyd, he’d have said it himself. He ain’t no fool.”

Roger didn’t really unload on Gamboa the way he likely would have if he don’t know him personally, because this would have likely drawn a much harder reaction from Roger if he wasn’t already familiar with him.

It’s understandable 50 Cent trying to get a big fight for his guy Gamboa, but he needs to be a little reasonable. Putting Gamboa in with Mayweather would be like sending him to a guaranteed slaughter. To be sure, Gamboa would get a nice payday if Mayweather were to fight him but it would be sickeningly one-sided. Gamboa is getting knocked down by featherweight.

Can you imagine what Mayweather would do to Gamboa if that right were to be made. Anyway, I don’t think Gamboa would even want the fight. You saw how he backed out of a fight against the former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios last year.

Gamboa has a fight coming up on December 8th against Miguel Beltran Jr. (21-2, 17 KO’s) on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. This fight is a little more like it for Gamboa.
