Marquez has already put a nice amount of muscle on his 5’7″ frame and is even more muscular than he was the last time he fought Pacquiao last November. In that fight Pacquiao has been expecting to the the more muscular and stronger guy like he’d been in the two previous times they had tangled with one another in 2004 and 2008.

However, with the help of his fitness guru Angel Hernandez, Marquez put on a lot of muscle that helped Marquez give Pacquiao a real beating in that fight. Normally when a fighter muscles up for a fight they end up slower and less agile. In this case, Hernandez helped really worked magic in helping Marquez put on the kind of muscle that actually helped him instead of hurt him.

Marquez has had a head start on his training camp, as he’d already been working out for two months before his fight with Pacquiao was signed. Marquez wanted to make sure that he was in the best shape possible for a fourth fight with Pacquiao, so he never stopped training. In contrast, Pacquiao just recently came over to the United States to begin his training camp with Freddie Roach at the Wildcard gym in Los Angeles.

Before starting his training camp with Roach, Pacquiao had been working out with Buboy Fernandez in the Philippines. I think that’s a big mistake by Pacquiao. I’m sure Buboy is a nice guy and all, but that’s no replacement for working out with a real trainer like Roach, especially for a fight as important as this.
