Deontay Wilder would have been a problem for David Price if he had been in with him tonight

Image: Deontay Wilder would have been a problem for David Price if he had been in with him tonightBy Scott Gilfoid: After watching how stiff and robotic British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion David Price (15-0, 13 KO’s) looked in defeating 45-year-old Matt Skelton (28-7, 23 KO’s) tonight in Liverpool, England, I firmly believe that unbeaten heavyweight prospect Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s) would have destroyed Price in one or two rounds. Price showed that he can be hit and all it takes is one big shot from Wilder and he’d likely have Price out of there almost immediately.

Price’s outside game wouldn’t work against the 6’7″ Wilder because Price is too slow and stiff. He doesn’t have the quickness that Wilder has. Wilder would be able to bomb Price nearly at will from the outside he’s so much faster with his left hook and right hand compared to him. It would be like target practice for Wilder with him landing his big power shots on the bulls-eye of Price head.

Price is a good body puncher, I give him that. There’s no doubt that he can really punch to the body, but the problem is he’d likely be long gone before he ever got a chance to throw anything to Wilder’s body because he’d get hit with one of Wilder’s big right hand and end up getting poleaxed from the shot. There’s no shame in getting destroyed by one of Wilder’s big shots because he’s got such huge power. I mean, 25 fighters have tried and 25 fighters have been knocked out. That tells me that it doesn’t matter who you are. Once Wilder lands one of his big power shots it’s all over.

Emanuel Steward, Wladimir Klitschko’s former trainer who died recently, said he believed that Wilder would be a world champion within a year’s time. Steward knew what he saw in Wilder that he had the ability to become a star in the next 12 months. Wladimir also was very impressed with the ability of Wilder in their camp, and he also sees big things from him in the near future.
