David Price and Tyson Fury still not ready for Wladimir

Image: David Price and Tyson Fury still not ready for WladimirBy Scott Gilfoid: After watching IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KO’s) put on a systematic boxing clinic last Saturday night in defeating challenger Mariusz Wach (27-1, 15 KO’s) by one of the most lopsided 12 round decisions that you’re ever going to see, I think it would be very wise for British heavyweights David Price (14-0, 12 KO’s) and Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) to wait until Wladimir ages a lot more before either of them attempt to challenge him for his titles.

Those guys are simply too far behind Wladimir in the talent department and I don’t see either of them getting closer as they get older. Usually when you have a couple of young heavyweights and an older heavyweight like 36-year-old Wladimir, you can see the younger guys gaining a little. But in this case Wladimir seems to be getting better still, whereas Fury and Price are pretty much staying in place and not showing the kind of talent needed to beat a guy like Wladimir.

In assessing how far away Fury and Price are from being able to beat a heavyweight like Wladimir, I’d say they’re probably around 10 years away, possibly more, if Wladimir was even interested in fighting that long. In other words, Price and Fury will never be able to beat a heavyweight like Wladimir and they’ll have to just sit and wait for him to retire so that they can try and slide in and take his vacant belts. Of course, by then there will be a lot more dangerous heavyweights ready to take Wladimir’s throne as the top guy and I really don’t see Fury or Price as that guy.

I think ranking systems are whack right now. Fury is ranked #4 by the WBC, but I don’t consider him as being that good and certainly not being a better heavyweight than Deontay Wilder (25-0, 25 KO’s), who isn’t ranked in the top 15 at this time. But that’s not surprising. The ranking are put together by a group of men and it’s not logical at times a lot of the rankings.
