The fight will be televised by Showtime.

For hardcore boxing fans this isn’t the fight that they were hoping the 25-year-old Garcia would take. Judah is way past his prime and he was already destroyed by Garcia’s knockout victim Amir Khan last year in an easy 5th round knockout win. The hardcore fans realize that Judah stands no chance of wining this fight and will simply get knocked out without making a fight of it.

The fighter that the knowledgeable hard core fans want to see Garcia fight is interim World Boxing Council light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse. Golden Boy isn’t in a hurry to make that fight, not with easy guys like Judah still around for good money payday fights for Garcia.

Judah is a good option for Garcia because casual boxing fans know him a lot more than they do better fighters in the division. Then problem with boxing is that it takes so long for a fighter to become well known to the casual boxing fans that by the time they know them they’re often over the hill. That’s kind of the situation with Judah. He was great 10 years ago, but he’s not pretty much about as good as Garcia’s last victim Erik Morales.

After Judah was wiped out last year by Khan, he came back to defeat fringe contender Vernon Paris by a 9th round TKO last March. It was a good win for Judah but then again Paris was slow and probably should have been ranked near the bottom of the division. Judah beat a guy that was limited to begin with.

Garcia is coming off of an easy 4th round knockout win over past his prime Erik Morales. That was Garcia’s second win over Morales in his last three fights, and it was a pity that the fight had to take place given how one-sided the first fight was.

It’ll be good once Garcia stops Judah because there’s not many more older fighters for Golden Boy to dig up for Garcia. They’ve pretty much exhausted the older light welterweights unless they dig up Humberto Soto and DeMarcus Corley. But seriously, Golden Boy needs to step it up because they’re not doing Garcia any favors by putting him in with past their prime fighters like Judah and Morales.
