Image: Boytsov pulls out, who will Fury face now?By Alex Hedges: In disappointing news for heavyweight fight fans, Denis Boytsov 31(25)-0 has withdrawn from his scheduled WBC eliminator with Tyson Fury 19(14)-0. It’s a real shame as competitive heavyweight fights between young prospects are few and far between these days.

Interestingly, Boytsov becomes the second high profile heavyweight to have walked away from a showdown with the fast improving 6’9″ Fury, after Ruslan Chagaev turned down a potential showdown in favour of a fight against Cuban enigma Mike Perez. In both cases, Boytsov and Chagaev cited a lack of preparation as the reason.

Regardless, Fury must now attempt to find a replacement opponent on relatively short notice. It’s unlikely he will be able to find an impressive opponent at this late stage, so it will probably be a journeyman like Tony Grano 20(16)-2 , who will be little more than a light workout for Fury. It will still be interesting, as Fury is visibly improving with each outing, so we will get a chance to see what he has learned in the last few months.

It would be nice to see someone like Deontay Wilder 25(25)-0 step in and take on Fury, after all Wilder fights only two weeks later. Earlier in the year Wilder called Fury out on twitter, no doubt angling for some column inches, when Fury responded Wilder went quiet, and later resurfaced to fight 39 year old, inactive super middleweight Damon Mccreary. To expect Wilder to suddenly step up now is unrealistic, as Wilder and his trainers would never put Wilder in a fight he is almost certain to lose.
