Martinez, 37, was put off after learning about Chavez Jr. testing positive for their fight last September at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and he wants to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Martinez said to the Record.com.mx “Chavez fouled boxing and he has to clean it up now. Chavez was doped, was dropped, call it what you will. He soiled the World Boxing Council belt, and soiled the family name…He will have to show that he’s working on this..blood and urine testing when we fight.”

Martinez will be undergoing surgery on his right knee on November 12th next month. Martinez’s injured left hand is slowly healing but it doesn’t look as if it’ll be a problem for him in the future. The real worry is his right knee. He’s going to have that cleaned out and will have to rehab it for the remainder of the year and into next year before he’ll be ready for a rematch against Chavez Jr.

As for Chavez Jr, the Nevada State Athletic Commission hasn’t sat down to decide his fate in terms of coming up with a suspension and a fine for his testing positive for marijuana. However, the suspension that Chavez Jr eventually given will have time subtracted because he’s already been given a temporary suspension by the Nevada Commission. Martinez obviously would like to get the Chavez Jr. rematch taken care of in the first quarter of next year, provided that Chavez Jr. isn’t given a long suspension.
