Image: Richardson: Pacquiao can't beat MarquezBy Chris Williams: Trainer Naazim Richardson doesn’t believe that Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KO’s) can win his upcoming December 8th fourth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KO’s). Richardson, who is an expert at judging talent of different fighters, sees Marquez as having way too much talent for the Filipino to win.

Richardson said in an interview at Doghouseboxing.com “I don’t think Pacquiao can beat Marquez. I picked Marquez in all three fights [with Pacquiao]. I thought he won all three fights. The fight that he got knocked down three times in the first round. I thought he got up and won every single round after that knockdown.”

I hate to say it but I think Richardson is absolutely 100 percent correct. I don’t think Pacquiao can beat Marquez, and I totally agree with Richardson about Marquez having won all three fights with Pacquiao. I also agree that Marquez got up off the deck in their first fight in 2004 and won the next 11 rounds of the fight. I’ve seen that fight at least dozen times over the years, and I can’t see Pacquiao winning one round after the 1st. It was pretty sad scoring of the fight if you ask me, as well as the scoring in the next two fights as well, apart from the judges that gave Marquez the fights.

Marquez, 39, really doesn’t need to change anything with his game. He’s perfect just the way he is. I know Marquez has been talking about needing to put more pressure on Pacquiao to make sure that he wins the fight, but I don’t see that as necessary at all. Marquez just needs to make sure he smacks Pacquiao two or three times each time that Pacquiao attempts to land one of his shots. By being the one that finishes with his shots, Marquez will put himself in position to get the decision at the end. He doesn’t need to waste effort trying to KO Pacquiao, because that’s not going to happen.

Pacquiao’s head seems to be able to absorb any amount of punishment without him getting hurt. It’s a waste of time for Marquez to even attempt to KO Pacquiao, because unless he focuses his efforts in going to the body, it’s going to be a waste for Marquez. Pacquiao is vulnerable to the body if Marquez really goes after him, but I don’t know that he will. He seems to be more of a head hunter than a body puncher.
