Price shows his power against Harrison

Image: Price shows his power against HarrisonBy Gareth Rees: You can look at David Price’s (14-0) brutal 1st round knockout victory over Audley Harrison (28-6) in two different ways. David Price defended his British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles in ruthless fashion as a sharp right hand hurt Harrison forcing him onto the ropes and from there it was just a matter of when the stoppage would come.

After a flurry of punches with many connecting, a huge right hand square to Harrison’s chin was all she wrote as it put Harrison to sleep, after a while Harrison did get up and seemed to have recovered and hopefully didn’t seem to have any serious damage.

If Harrison follows his word, this will be the last time we see Harrison fighting in a boxing ring.

If you are not a fan of David Price or Audley Harrison it would be easy to comment saying this was a nothing fight for Price and Harrison shouldn’t have even been in that ring. So no matter how impressive Price looks in this knockout to the majority, there will be some saying how this fight shouldn’t do anything for Price’s reputation. In a way you can see the point whilst Harrison really set the ball rolling for the new crop of British boxers with his gold medal in Sydney, he has done nothing at professional level and maybe Price was just looking for a name on his record.

However you have to respect the fact the David Price has pure power in his fists, in the first punch that hurt Harrison, Price didn’t look like he put all his effort into it which is scary. I personally am liking Price more, every time he fights and hope he gets back in the ring again soon. Even if Harrison wasn’t worthy of the title shot the way he was finished in 1 and half minutes sends a definite message to the heavyweight division around the world.

Although a lot of signs are pointing to Price facing Matt Skelton after his win earlier in the night, I hope Price faces Tyson Fury next. It looked like Fury was avoiding Price when he gave up his titles when Price was his number one contender and tonight both men called each other out with Frank Maloney offering half a million to Fury to fight Price. I think Price would knock Fury out and it definitely seems like the public want that to happen, then after Fury I see Price facing David Haye which with a victory would definitely put him near or even at the front of the queue for a World Title shot.
