McKenna (McJack): Preliminary Ukrainian election results suggest that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (45-2, 41 KO’s) may fight again after all. The election process in Klitschko’s homeland is extremely complicated, and even local officials have difficulty explaining or even understanding the system. Klitschko, clearly disappointed at the results, was at a loss as to why his UDAR (Punch) party did not fare better at the polls.

While the election results were not good news for “Dr. Ironfist”, it opens the door somewhat for former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (26-2, 24 KO’s) to finally realize his dream of fighting Vitali. The “Hayemaker” put on a disappointing lack luster performance in July 2011 against WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO and Ring heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (58-3, 51 KO’s). Haye then retired as promised upon reaching his 31st birthday in October 2011. He left the door open however, for a return to the ring, but only if his opponent was one of the Klitschko’s.

Wladimir, after his dominant win over Haye was not interested in taking him on again. Vitali on the other hand expressed the desire to fight Haye. “Dr. Ironfist” was not happy about some of the derogatory comments Haye made in the lead up to his fight with Wladimir. He has stated on numerous occasions that he wants to KO Haye.

The “Hayemaker” redeemed himself to some extent when he scored an impressive TKO stoppage over Derek Chisora (15-4, 9 KO’s) in July. The win over Chisora was all the more impressive given that Vitali was unable to stop him over twelve rounds last February. It should be noted however that Klitschko suffered an injury to his left shoulder in the 3rd round of the Chisora fight.

With the Ukrainian elections now over it is likely that Haye will begin the attempt to goad the 41 year old Vitali into a lucrative championship match. With the “Hayemaker’s” victory over Chisora the fight would now be easier to sell to boxing fans. Haye is well known for his ability to promote himself to boxing fans. David has stated again and again that he is not interested in taking on any of the other top heavyweight contenders.

As for Vitali, it is unlikely that he would want to ride off into the sunset without settling the score with Haye. His victory over Manuel Charr (21-1, 11 KO’s) in September was anti climatic to say the least. Although Klitschko was well ahead at the time of the stoppage, it was not the kind of fight he would want to retire on.
