Garcia did a good job of putting Morales out of his misery with a nice left hook to the head that rendered him senseless.

However, after the fight when Garcia was questioned about whether or not he’d be interested in fighting interim WBC light welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30 KO’s), Garcia said “To me, Lucas Matthysse isn’t one of the best. He doesn’t got a title. I can beat anybody.”

That doesn’t sound like Garcia wants to mix it up with the hard hitting Matthysse, does it? Garcia may not have much choice because he’s going to have to fight Matthysse next year or else he’ll be stripped of his WBC title by the World Boxing Council.

For Garcia to be able to avoid the fight with with Matthysse, he’s going to have to get the WBC to agree to let him bypass the fight for him to fight whoever that he feels is a good fighter. Garcia’s promoters at Golden Boy Promotion are looking at putting Garcia in with Zab Judah next, and that’s likely going to require that the WBC let Garcia take that fight because Judah isn’t ranked in the top 15 by either the WBC or the WBA. Garcia just fought an optional title defense against 36-year-old Morales, so he’s supposed to be fighting Matthysse next.

Garcia looks like of silly now with Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, saying he wants to match Garcia up with Judah, who was blown out by Amir Khan. Judah doesn’t have a title, and he’s probably not going to be winning any more titles unless he can get lucky and possibly pick one up off of Lamont Peterson. Matthysse not having a title was one of Garcia’s argument for not wanting to fight him.

It just looks like Golden Boy Promotions is having Garcia build a career on fighting older fighters that are past their best. Garcia beat 36-year-old Morales twice, Nate Campbell and now it’s going to be Judah. It kind of reminds you a little bit of how Chad Dawson was matched against older fighters like Antonio Tarver, Glen Johnson and Bernard Hopkins.
