Image: Carlos Molina could put Khan out of his misery on December 15thBy William Mackay: The small light hitting 5’6″ lightweight Carlos Molina (17-0, 7 KO’s) has been picked out to be the sacrificial lamb for former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan )26-3, 18 KO’s) to destroy and look in doing so on Showtime Sports on December 15th at the Sports Arena, in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Molina, 26, isn’t supposed to win this fight because he’s got no power and hasn’t had a knockout in 2 years against weak opposition. However, when you’ve got a fighter with a weak chin to begin with who is coming off of a knockout loss like Khan is in his last bout against Danny Garcia last July, there’s no such thing as a guaranteed win.

Golden Boy Promotions has put Khan in a really good position to win the fight by picking for a weak and slow guy in Molina, but if Khan’s chin isn’t even good enough to take this guy’s shots then you’ve got to figure that it’s all over with for Khan.

A knockout loss to Molina will suggest that there is something seriously wrong with Khan, and beyond repair of even a great defensive trainer like Virgil Hunter, who Khan recently chose to help resurrect his sagging career. Khan has lost his last two fights and looked terrible in both.

The losses suggest that Khan doesn’t have what it takes to beat the best fighters in the division now. He’s going to have to prove that he can beat the best now, because the losses tell you that Khan was probably over-hyped by a lot of people based on wins over an old Zab Judah, Paulie Malignaggi, and Marcos Maidana. Those are decent fighters but they get a lot better than this at 140, and Khan failed the test in his last two fights.

Molina has the perfect blueprint available to him in order to get ready for the Khan fight by studying Khan’s 4th round knockout loss to Danny Garia. All Molina has to do is work on his power in this camp and then come out looking to KO Khan with every punch. Molina isn’t going to beat Khan by a decision, and I think he’s probably well aware of that. He’s going to need to KO him, and that makes his job a little easier because it means he can swing for the fences by going for head shots the entire fight.
