Image: Pacquiao: I have to knock Marquez outBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao was repeating some of the same words that Juan Manuel Marquez was saying today in their press conference in Los Angeles earlier today, saying “I have to knock him [Marquez] out,” as quoted by Yahoo Sports News.

It’s odd that Pacquiao should be the one saying this because he’s won two controversial decisions over Marquez in their last two fights, and a lot of boxing fans don’t feel that the judges would ever give Marquez a decision win over a big money icon like Pacquiao. As such, why Pacquiao need to knock Marquez out to win?

Pacquiao continued “I already beat Bradley. Everyone knows it. I just didn’t get my hand raised.”

Wrong! You lost, Pacquiao. It was Bradley who won that fight and he deserved to win it because he worked a lot harder than you did by fighting the full three minutes of every round instead of just the last 20 seconds.

Marquez himself admitted that he never felt that Pacquiao would agree to fight him again and you can’t blame him for having doubts because it took Pacquiao four years before he fought again after their first meeting in 2004. It then took another three years before Pacquiao would agree to fight Martinez after their second fight in 2008. Marquez, now 39, likely figured that if Pacquiao followed that schedule for fighting him then he likely wouldn’t be ready to fight him again until he’s 42 or 43, which would have likely made him too old to beat the Filipino.

The strange thing is Marquez is fighting at a higher level than Pacquiao despite being six years older than him. That’s the weird part. Pacquiao has really slowed down in the past year and is looking and fighting like a much older fighter than his chronological age. Marquez could be the more active guy in the ring when they meet up on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
